Brian Bowen Sr. testifies about bribes from Louisville, Arizona, others

Brian Bowen Sr. could not even answer federal prosecutor Edward Diskanta€™s question about why Bowena€™s son, Brian a€œTugsa€ Bowen, was not currently enrolled in college.

The elder Bowen buried his face in a wad of tissues and began crying uncontrollably less than 10A minutes into his testimony in courtroom 26b of the Manhattan federal courthouse Thursday, as the criminal trial centered around alleged corruption, bribery and fraud in the college basketball world continued.

But after taking a 15-minute break to compose himself, Bowen Sr. returned to the stand and detailed bribes offered for his son's commitment by multiple men's basketball programs including Louisville, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Texas and Creighton.A

Bowen Sr. testified that sports agent Christian Dawkins, one of three defendants on trial in New York, told him Adidas' original offer of $60,000 to $80,000 for Tugs to attend Louisville was increased to $100,000 because that is how much former recruit Billy Preston received to sign with Kansas.

Bowen Sr. also said Dawkins relayed the following offers to him:

$50,000 from Arizona via former assistant coach Joe Pasternack

Ex-Oklahoma State assistantA Lamont EvansA (who was indicted by the FBI) offered $8,000 for a car, $150,000 in cash and additional money for housing

Former Texas assistant Mike Morrell said the Longhorns would "help with housing"

Creighton said it would pay $100,000 and get Bowen Sr. "a good job" through assistant Preston Murphy

Bowen Sr. said he did not recall discussing an offer from Oregon with Dawkins, even though a defense attorney for Adidas executive James Gatto claimed Tuesday that Louisville's $100,000 offer was intended to compete with anA "astronomical" offer from Nike-sponsored Oregon.
